円形のメダイヨン表面には、古代メソポタミアのラマッスや有翼守護獣、さらに古代ペルシャ／アケメネス朝美術に見られる有翼牡牛、有翼獅子、グリフィン的意匠を想起させる、力強い守護獣のモチーフが高浮彫で表現されています。
古代オリエント世界において、王宮、神殿、門、聖域を守護する存在として現れた翼ある動物像を、ゴッサンスは考古学的な写実ではなく、CHANELのためのクチュール・ジュエリーとして再構成しました。
